Your First Visit

You are not alone. You may have just discovered that a child you care for has been abused. You may be feeling overwhelmed, with many thoughts, feelings, and concerns. The Tree House Child Advocacy Center is here to help.

Before you arrive

The Tree House is the only agency of its kind in Montgomery County. We provide a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse cases and cases where a child has witnessed a violent crime.

Everything at the Tree House happens under one roof, in a child-friendly space, and every service is free of charge. You will never be asked to pay for your child's care.

If English is not your first language, we are here for you. The Tree House provides interpreter and translation services free of charge, in the language you choose. Just let us know what you need.

When you get here

What happens during your visit depends on which team member you are meeting with. Our warm and welcoming environment stays the same no matter who you see.

When you arrive, you will check in with our receptionist, who will let your provider know you are here. A team of professionals will work with you and your child from that point forward. You will always know what is happening and what comes next.

Who you will meet

The Family Advocacy Program is designed to guide families on their journey to healing by providing comprehensive wrap-around services for the life of the case. Specially trained advocates may help in the following ways:

  • Provide ongoing supportive services for the life of the case
  • Conduct screenings for trauma symptoms to determine appropriate services
  • Assess family safety and immediate needs
  • Provide victim rights information
  • Screen for Crime Victim Compensation benefits
  • Provide mainstream resources and referrals
  • Assist with case navigation
  • Treatment planning with therapists
  • Assist with court readiness and provide court accompaniment, should the case go to court

Prevention and education

The Tree House believes child abuse and neglect can be prevented. Learning the signs, talking openly with children, and knowing where to turn all help keep children safe.

These apps, books, and websites can help children and teens name and manage strong emotions. They are a helpful addition to therapy, not a replacement for it.
